Long Melford is a large village located near Lavenham. It has one of the longest high-streets in Suffolk. The best part of a day could easily be spent wandering up and down this street browsing in gift shops, book shops and grabbing a bite to eat and drink in a cafe or maybe sustenance in a restaurant before venturing out again to wander around one of the many art studios or quaint shops selling knick-knacks.
Sights to see beyond the main long high-street are the large parish church with its impressive architecture and detail. Nearby is the 16th century almshouse. Then there is the two stately homes of Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall. Both are worth a visit and many pleasant hours could be spent at either.
Long Melford is also one of the villages featured in the popular TV show Lovejoy due to its popular antiques shops. It has also appeared in other TV series due to its quaint postcard views that take you back to the old days when Long Melford was part of the wool trade and a popular Suffolk-Essex border town.
