Thorpeness is a beautiful village with clean sandy beaches located on the Suffolk coast just north of Aldeburgh.
The focal point of Thorpeness is The Meare, an artificial lake inspired by Peter Pan, with various islands such as “The Pirates Lair” and “Wendy’s home”. You can hire a row boat and explore the Meare and its various landing points at your leisure.
Surrounding the Meare are a selection of shops and cafes offering food and drink as well as ice-creams. In the distance is the house in the clouds – a former water tower converted into a towering self-catering luxury accommodation.
Exploring the village further you will find a set of 1920s almshouses to the north and the North Warren RSPB nature reserve to the south.
Thorpeness is a popular stop for any visitor going to or from Aldeburgh.
